Securing your spot: a QR code for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games #
This measure is paramount to ensure everyone’s safety during the global sports event.
Starting May 10th, an online platform will open for QR code registration, providing you access to specific areas of the capital during July and August. This initiative was announced by Paris’ police chief, Laurent Nuñez, in November 2023, and will soon be operational as revealed by Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin.
A mandatory step: registration on the platform #
Registration on this platform will be compulsory for « several tens of thousands of people ». This includes residents, entitled guests, consumers, and those working in the area. Without this step, movement within the protection zones surrounding the competition sites will be impossible. Personal information such as name, first name, and date of birth will be required during registration.
Gérald Darmanin has warned that « security screenings will be carried out » for registered individuals to ensure only authorized personnel can access the secure perimeters. To date, 195,000 screenings have been completed, with a total of one million to be carried out by the event. Safety is a top priority to ensure no dangerous individuals can infiltrate sensitive areas.
Secure access to Olympic sites: get your QR code to fully experience the games #
The Interior Minister announced the implementation of a QR code-based exemption system, allowing access to the secure perimeter around Olympic sites, just a week before the games kick off. This QR code, available on smartphones or tablets, can also be printed for convenient checks.
Obtaining this QR code becomes necessary once the security perimeter is fully secured. « Pedestrian or non-pedestrian, you will need to present your QR code and your ID at the checks. Once inside the perimeter, your freedom is guaranteed, » assured the minister.
Additional efforts are in place to facilitate the QR code acquisition. The process will not be limited to the internet. Teams will meet residents, distribute leaflets in mailboxes, and assist people with registration.
